Silivian Dirobu (Jake)

Backstory

Silvian grew up in a grove called Lunaris, where the magic of various endangered animals, beasts and mythical creatures was channeled to create a hidden sanctuary from the outside world. The grove was protected by a clan of druids, who dedicated their lives to preserving and caring for the rare and majestic beings that lived there. Small parties of the clan’s patrons would venture out on rescue missions to retrieve those that didn’t have refuge from the world changing too quickly, facing dangers and challenges along the way.

On one such skirmish, Silvian and his team, the Moonlighters, composed of Lila, Remy, and Kira, sought a dragon that was trapped in a cave at the entrance of a rocky mountain. The dragon was under threat from two nearby cities that were expanding their territories and resources, and it was soon to choose between holding its ground or leaving, a fight that could have devastating outcomes on either side.

When the Moonlighters tried to enter the cave, the dragon warned them off with flames at the entrance, but Silvian saw an opening to dash through and reach the dragon. Recognizing the pure intention and bravery of the young druid, the dragon accepted the offer to join the grove and underwent a trade ritual. The ritual involved placing the dragon’s soul in another dimension, created entirely as a sanctum designed for the dragon, linked with two-way gates to others for similar beasts. The dragon’s body was left behind in the cave, but it could still communicate and sense through its soul.

The Moonlighters returned home successfully, bringing the news of their accomplishment to the clan. Silvian, however, felt a special connection to the dragon, and decided to name it Tygon. He spent a lot of time with Tygon in the sanctum, learning from its wisdom and sharing his own. They bonded in an abnormal way for the clan, as most druids respected the creatures’ privacy and autonomy.

Tygon disclosed to Silvian that he could feel his inherent energy being channeled by the clan. Silvian had noticed over time that what used to be a modest magic forest was expanding with more luxuries almost every capture. The clan set out less and less to procure those that needed saving, in order to conserve those they already had. While this didn’t inherently harm the creatures, it was against the founding beliefs of the tribe, which were to protect and serve, not to exploit and consume.

Silvian decided with his knowledge and Tygon’s support, they could set out to save those from riskier areas that were being neglected. He also discovered that Tygon’s spirit could be invoked into physical form, channeled by a chipped tooth from his old body. This gave Silvian the ability to fly on the golden dragon’s back, and to unleash its fiery breath when needed.

This caused tense relationships with his old family and friends, who saw him as a traitor and a rebel. He also took with him trade secrets that could be leveraged to exploit more creatures everywhere for powerful self gain. He was branded as an outcast and a fugitive by the clan, and was hunted by some of his former allies.

Some intel that had been floating around Lunaris for some time was the legend of an aberration guarding the mirage city. However, knowing how difficult it was to reach, the grove had long given up hope of defending a creature that likely had the capability to defend itself anyway.

Early in his travels, he crossed a small settlement named Zaura, where he was immediately confronted with its animal farms. He could not bear to watch the suffering and abuse of the innocent creatures, who were confined, branded, and butchered. He tried to appeal to the townspeople’s conscience, urging them to release the animals and show them some kindness. But his pleas were met with scorn and hostility, as the townspeople closed ranks and defended their way of life. Tygon felt the tension and came to Silvian’s aid, emerging from the sanctum in his fearsome form. A watchmen panicked and shot at Tygon, hitting his chipped tooth that was the link to his spirit. Silvian was enraged and commanded Tygons’ retaliation with a fireball at the guard tower that brought it down in flames and rubble, along with the guard, a scared father defending his home. He then escaped on Tygon’s back, leaving the town in terror and grief. He earned the reputation of an eco-terrorist, a tale that spread like wildfire among the nearby settlements.
