Backstory¶
Adio, a devout follower of Obad-Hai, was born and raised in Scorpion's Rest, a place deeply entwined with ancient secrets and a rich history. Despite the town's prevalent disdain for his faith, Adio remains a firm believer, convinced that he is a guardian of knowledge passed down through generations in his family and religious order.
Within his church, Adio has dedicated himself to the Path of the Sun, a sect symbolising enlightenment and strength. This choice aligns with his unwavering belief in the light and warmth that his deity represents, further setting him apart in a town that has largely turned away from these old beliefs.
Adio's life is not solely dedicated to his faith; he is also a devoted son. His mother, Kali, holds a significant role in the church as the Keeper of Lore, a position that involves safeguarding the sacred texts and teachings of their faith. His father, Amun-Ra, serves as the Sun's Herald, leading ceremonies and rituals that honour the sun and its life-giving power.
Haunted by the mystery of his god's silence, Adio is torn between the tangible power he wields in his god's name and the absence of any direct communion with his deity. This fuels his determination to rediscover Obad-Hai's lost glory and restore Scorpion's Rest to its legendary status.
Adio's commitment to his old faith puts him at odds with the followers of Scorpion's Rest's newer religion, leading to tensions and mutual disdain. This divide is deepened by the zealous nature of both groups, often bringing them to the brink of conflict.
Among his most treasured possessions is an amulet dedicated to Obad-Hai, a symbol of his devotion and a reminder of the divine presence he so fervently seeks to understand and revive.
Driven by his quest for knowledge and restoration, Adio embarked on an expedition to uncover forgotten religious artefacts. His journey led him to the mysterious and perilous Ruined City, believed to hold ancient secrets of his faith. However, the journey was fraught with challenges, and Adio was forced to return to Scorpion's Rest in failure. Undeterred, he is now aboard a ship, determined to set out once more in search of the artefacts that might unlock the mysteries of his god and restore the former glory of his homeland.
